Kicking the Bulldog Out the Cage
Orangeburg, SC – South Carolina State University might be on their way to
expansion. As we all know living on campus gives you the full college experience.
What if campus was packed to capacity and no more housing was available?
It used to be that students with this issue would move into school
housing off campus. Which one option would’ve been Campus Corner- an apartment
building occupied with half SC State students and the other half Claflin students.
The apartment offered its own kitchen and living room area with a bedroom that
led to a co-share bathroom. Campus Corner plummeted when it came to local
reviews. Whether it be the constant harassment about rent money or the unsafe
feeling due to roaming locals.
Claflin University decided to rent Campus Corner for a semester moving
all their girl students in but sending SC State students packing. When news
broke a source who wishes to remain anonymous stated, “It’s because the students
have to much going on.” With almost two semesters passing and no word of trouble
Campus Corner decided to sell to Claflin University.
Students and parents were shocked forced to find housing for students
elsewhere and quick! However, this might’ve been a good thing because it’s now
obvious that South Carolina State needs more housing for students. Which is now
being built! So that students are comfortable. The university has decided to
double up in some dorms on campus as of now. Students dislike the change and
are hoping the dorms being built will be finished anytime soon.
Claflin has since placed gates on the outside of the Campus Corner
building. After 2017 CC shooting by a fellow Claflin student school officials guarantee
safety and control.
